The CeNS workshop & e-conversion Cluster Conference brings together young researchers of the Center for NanoScience (CeNS) and the Cluster of Excellence e-conversion with experienced scientists from the fields of physics and chemistry. The workshop talks are intended to give the doctoral and post-doctoral researchers of CeNS and e-conversion an overview of current research topics on nanometer-scale science.
The conference will occur at the Venice International University (VIU) on the small island of San Servolo. The island is connected to the historic center of Venice by boat No. 20. The boat ride takes 10 minutes.
Program Committee
The program committee is composed of the following CeNS and e-conversion members:
- Prof. Alexander Högele, LMU Physics
- Prof. Alena Khemlinskaia, LMU Chemistry
- Prof. Frédéric Laquai, LMU Chemistry
- PD Dr. Bert Nickel, LMU Physics
- Prof. Ian Sharp, TUM Physics
- Prof. Christopher Stein, TUM Physics
Program
The workshop will start on Monday, September 23 at 9.15 am and will end on Thursday, September 26 at about 6.00 pm and will combine invited talks and poster presentations.
A conference website will be available to all participants and speakers, including a schedule, abstracts for talks and posters, a list of participants, and general information.

Accommodation
We have booked rooms for speakers and participants in the hotel “Center Don Orione Artigianelli” in Dorsoduro, one of the historic quarters of central Venice, from Sunday evening (22 September) to Friday morning (27 September).
Single rooms (or double rooms upon request) are available for speakers and PIs of CeNS/e-conversion.
For graduate students, we have reserved twin, triple, and quadruple rooms in the hotel “Center Don Orione Artigianelli” and in the “Foresteria Valdese”.
Group Travel to Venice by Train
We have made reservations for a direct train to and from Venice, so that all participants from Munich can travel together to Venice. The train (EuroCity) leaves Munich Main Station on Sunday, September 22 at 11:33 am and will arrive in Venezia Santa Lucia at 6:25 pm.
The return train will leave Venice on Friday, September 27 at 1:35 pm and will reach Munich at 8:26 pm.
Travelling by Plane
Several airlines offer flights to Marco Polo International Airport at Venice. Regular boats (e.g. ALILAGUNA) and shared watertaxis connect the airport to the city of Venice.
The nearest boat stops to the hotel “Don Orione Artigianelli” are Zattere and Accademia. From there, it is a 3 minute walk. The conference location San Servolo is reached by boat No. 20 from the stop San Zaccaria, close to the Piazza San Marco.
