Discover. Explore. Know. Under this motto, the Open House Day will take place at the Forschungscampus Garching on 3 October 2024, from 10 am to 5 pm. At the same time, big and small “The Mouse” fans should take note! The nationwide event “Doors Open with the Mouse,” organized by WDR, will also take place, offering visitors a journey of discovery into the world of science.

Like last year, many institutes at the Forschungscampus Garching will open their doors on the Mouse Door Opener Day, giving visitors a behind-the-scenes look. Visitors can look forward to countless hands-on activities, lab tours, lectures, and other informational formats such as science slams and shows. Music and numerous food stands will ensure a lively atmosphere and plenty of refreshments.

At the four Munich Clusters of Excellence, everything revolves around future technologies and the universe: Where will we get energy from? What is a quantum computer? How does Alzheimer’s develop? And what happened after the Big Bang? Researchers from the four Munich Clusters of Excellence – e-conversion, MCQST, SyNergy, and ORIGINS – are exploring these and many other questions. At the joint booth, you can expect exciting experiments to try yourself, lots of information about the clusters, and a thrilling quiz with great prizes!

  • Construct a battery from fruit and learn to play the piano on a banana.
  • Experience research up close with virtual and augmented reality.
  • Craft neurons and discover them under the microscope.
  • Make “fridge magnets” with galaxy and planet images to take home.
  • Build a particle detector out of Lego bricks.
  • Grab a helmet and take a photo right in the tunnel of the famous particle accelerator at CERN.

You can find the entire program on the Forschungscampus Garching website.

Last year, the event was overwhelmingly popular, and many attractions requiring registration were fully booked. So, in the spirit of the motto “Discover. Explore. Know.”, it’s worth getting active before 3 October!
