Have you ever found yourself on the brink of nodding off during a scientific presentation, worried your audience might drift away, too? Or are you confident you can keep your audience awake but eager for fresh perspectives to enhance your delivery? Then, the Science Slam format might be a good alternative. Captivating, vivid, funny: this is how young scientists present their research projects at Science Slams. The latest work in astrophysics, life sciences, nano-research, and the like becomes a multifaceted stage program. The Science Slam takes science out of the ivory tower and brings it to the stage: in clubs, theaters, or pubs.

The Science Slam is interactive; it lives with the audience. After the individual presentations, the audience votes on how they liked the content and performance. And at the end of the evening, it is decided who wins the Slam! Have we sparked your interest? Then join us – the four Munich Clusters of Excellence (SyNergy, e-conversion, ORIGINS, MCQST) – for a workshop led by experts from Science & Stories. Say goodbye to sleepy audiences and hello to captivating presentations!

Day 1: Monday, 7 October 2024, 9:00-17:00: Improve your presentation skills

9:00 – 17:00, Kleiner Physiksaal N 020, Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 1

From storyboarding to body language: During a full-day workshop, you will receive input on structuring and improving your presentations. Tips that are valuable for any presentation at any stage of your (scientific) career. The workshop language will be English.

Optional: Day 2 (limited places): Tuesday, 8 October 2024, 9:00-17:00: Prepare for a Science Slam

9:00 – 17:00, Rooms R.153 & R.154, Schellingstr. 3

If you’re eager to share your science with a large audience, join us on this second workshop day, where we will zoom in on the Science Slam format. An expert will guide you through the preparation process for an upcoming public Science Slam scheduled for the following week. The group is small – only 5 participants per cluster – to ensure you step into the Science Slam arena well-equipped and confident. With only two Science Slam spots per cluster available for the Science Slam event itself, participation in the following week’s event will be determined by a jury at the end of this workshop.

Science Slam on 17 October 2024, 7 p.m. at Bahnwärter Thiel, Tumblingerstraße 45, 80337 Munich

Save the date! The participants selected by the jury on workshop day 2 get to compete in the Science Slam on 17 October. The audience will determine a winner.
